| Mr.
McLaughlin has extensive experience investing and operating
in the insurance industry. Over the past decade, he has
been actively involved in the investment process and oversight
of many insurance businesses owned by private equity firms,
including: Republic Insurance Companies; Life Partners;
Old American; Seguros Commercial America; Acordia; Mitchell;
and Universal American.
Prior to founding Emerald Capital, a distressed asset manager
and a corporate finance advisor to insurance companies,
Mr. McLaughlin was an Executive Vice President and Chief
Investment Officer of Life Partners Group (a $3 billion
insurance holding company). Prior to Life Partners Group,
he held various positions in the Financial Services industry
that included: Managing Director of Conning & Company;
Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of ICH
Corporation (an $8 billion holding company); Senior Vice
President-Special Markets of SunAmerica; and President and
Chief Operating Officer of Philadelphia Financial Group
(a $60 million insurance holding company).
Additionally, Mr. McLaughlin currently serves as a director
for Universal American, American Independent and Superior
Vision Services and was previously a director of UICI, Old
American, Acordia and Health Axis.
Mr. McLaughlin currently serves as an advisor to the management
team of Republic Insurance. He also was an integral part
of the due diligence process prior to the closing of the
Republic transaction.
